Already on 24 June Krakow will throw a party to the rhythm of music live. Kortez, Taco Hemingway, Wacław Zimpel, Włodek Pawlik, Sorry Boys, Agnieszka Chrzanowska, Pod Budą, Atom String Quartet, Szymon Nehring and for the first time in the history of the event – finalists of Megafon competition organised by Radio Krakow and other musicians will be playing all day long for residents and visitors on at least four stages. There will also be a lot of accompanying events, a pyrotechnic show and the traditional competition for the finest wreath. And these are only some of attractions that the City of Krakow and the Krakow festival Office prepared for you on Wianki – Fête de la Musique.
”The formula of the event refers to the French Fête de la Musique, inviting participants to a celebrate music. It was well tested and tried in the previous years so the residents of Krakow and tourists enjoyed it regardless of age. This year the main stages will be in the Old Town, Podgórze and Nowa Huta. There will also be a lot of accompanying events. So spare some time for the event”, says Robert Rozciecha, Deputy Director of the Krakow Festival Office.
The Hard Rock Cafe Krakow stage will be put up in the Main Market Square. The best known stars of Polish contemporary pop music, including charismatic Julia Marcell, exciting Kortez, inspiring Sorry Boys and sought-after Taco Hemingway will appear on stage. On top of that, EndoPower, a group of urology professors with guitars – will show their rock power.
The Krakow Stage on Plac Szczepański will host musicians connected with the capital of Małopolska. Well known Agnieszka Chrzanowska and Robert Kasprzycki will sing there, and the renowned group Pod Budą with Andrzej Sikorowski will celebrate their anniversary. In addition, the Krakow audience will have the opportunity to see acclaimed Krakow-born Szymon Nehring, the only Pole who reached the finals of the 17th Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, and will appear together with Sinfonietta Cracovia.
The Debut Stage, fully devoted to debut groups from Krakow and not only from here, will acquaint residents of Krakow and tourists with less know musicians from Małopolska. Thanks to our cooperation with Radio Krakow, finalists of the Megafon competition, which has had its 8th edition since April will be playing there. The winners can expect 20 hrs on Radio Krakow and promotion of their material on air at the Krakow broadcasting studio. Before that happens, three ensembles from Małopolska on the threshold of their career will have the opportunity to attract the audience gathered in Rynek Podgórski. Krakow-based ensembles that have already made the first steps in their concerting career but still struggle for the opportunity to introduce themselves to a wider audience will also be offered their chance on the Showcase Stage, on which young, non-commercial groups Gypsy and the Acid Queen, and Cheap Tobacco will also appear. The young vocalist and composer – Piotr Zioła with his original timbre will also sing at the finale. His debut album Revolving Door, released in spring 2016, received favourable critical reviews and won a growing audience.
The Jazz Stage will stand next to Nowohuckie Centrum Kultury, offering the audience all dimensions of jazz. The winner of Grammy Award Włodek Pawlik; the holder of recently received ”Polityka” Passport Wacław Wimpel; Jazzpospolita promoting their most recent record, and one of world--acclaimed string quartets – Atom String Quartet will play on that stage.
Regardless of what music they like the most, residents of Krakow will surely be enchanted by the pyrotechnic show, to be admired on Czerwieński Boulevard. The biggest attraction of the event lies in live music, but the traditional competition of the fine wreaths, attractions for kids, the Club Night and many accompanying events will also be offered. All events of Wianki – Fête de la Musique are open and free of charge. More information will come soon. Please follow: Wianki.Krakow.pl and Facebook.com/Wianki
