“…Club debut of the year!!!
Those, who like electro pop, should dance away the weekends to the music of the Polish group Mosqitoo.”
“...A Pole can do it! Finally, we have a bank that can make people rise on the dance floors of all of Europe.”
“...The heart grows that in Poland, professionally produced, modern sounding pop can be created.”
“...Finally, there’s a chance that instead of cocoa pop-soul, pop-rock female nausea or over sweetened highlander music, we can listen to more modern sounds.”
That is how Polish media received the debut album of the band Mosqitoo, which is created by the producer and composer Rafał Malicki and vocalist and author of lyrics, Monika Głębowicz. Mosqitoo is a mix of styles and conventions. They say that they play the kind of music they would like to listen to themselves. And that is how we receive a huge dose of innovative ideas: energetic club rhythms combined with electro music, pop, R&B, hip-hop. Very melodic hits, but still alternative playing. Warm and powerful vocals, delicate, sometimes sterile, and sometimes aggressive electronic sounds. The audience has awarded Mosqitoo with the Superjedynki award during the National Festival of Polish Songs in Opole in 2006. The audience also noticed them at the festival TopTrendy, which was organised by Polsat television, where in the final concert they were extremely successful and as a debuting band, they came in 3rd. Mosqitoo was also honoured by the jury of the competition “Gra Muzyka” organised by Gazeta Wyborcza.
In September 2007, the band’s second album titled Black Electro was released. It is a combination of black music with electro – electropop, in which the cool, sterile sounds evoking the landscapes of north Canada or Iceland, mix with fatty beats, R&B, Hip Hop, break beat and the pulse of the club dance floor. Music, which could simple be called “Black’n’Electro”. The album has in itself the nerve of the Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, but also the lightness of Kylie and Goldfrapp. Aside from sound experiments changing these songs, which a pop in their form, into music close to alternative, Mosqitoo’s album is above all a hit. Each song has its own “moment”, very melodic, infectious chorus, bass line, catchy guitar riff and rhythm, which remains in one's memory for a long time.
